Man about Manchester

Walk into any city bash worth mentioning and you will most likely find yourself in the same room as dapper local celeb Iain Duncan. How do you find him? Simple, just follow the camera flashlights darling! Hailed as a style guru in the local press, Iain is our tireless Man About Manchester, scouring the city for all things fresh, fun and fabulous for your eyes only.

Malmaison Hotel and Spa

Being the Man About Manchester sometimes has unusual perks, this month being an overnight stay at the Mal courtesy of Jill Browton, the Lady of the Mal. I consider myself to be well-travelled and I have stayed in some great properties but the suites, restaurant and luxurious spa at this hotel exceeded all expectations. There are two suites celebrating our football teams' heritage, Manchester United and Manchester City, plus another suite that embraces our Manchester theatre land. Fabulous! Now to the spa - if you can spare a couple of hours and fancy being pampered in Manchester's most sumptuous spa, this is the one!

Manchester United Museum

To be frank I am in no way a football fan but when offered a corporate box with views overlooking the hallowed ground of Man Utd I am hardly going to refuse. Thank you to Matt Potter and Sharon Burns for their hospitality. Being a proud Mancunian, I embraced the tour of the Manchester United Museum with vigour. I learnt so much about our team and its achievements and marvelled at the amazing photo opportunities inside the museum. The Mega Store invites you to spend a small fortune while you are still full of football adrenaline.

Princess on Portland

Hand in hand with my dear friend Judith Rafferty off we skip to what should have been a very standard meeting, only to be suitably impressed by the quality of the conference facilities and food at the Princess on Portland Hotel. I repeat myself, I know, but with my business travels I frequent many a meeting room in my quest for global domination so I believe I am suitably qualified to declare the Princess meeting rooms some of the finest in our city. As for our group dinner at the hotel's restaurant, well it was comparable to any rosette standard restaurant, with beautiful presentation and regional flavours in abundance.

Imperial War Museum North

This month sounds like a month of parties and freebies - no change there! Attending a party at the Imperial War Museum is a very unique experience, combining party splendour with surroundings that evoke the cold disorientation of war. I am proud to say I was absolutely blown away (no pun intended) by the awe-inspiring building and high level of hospitality. I cannot wait for family and friends to visit me so I can showcase this marvel at Salford Quays. Thank you to Michelle Freeman for looking after me and for the enormous gift hamper from the fantastic gift shop within the museum.

Tiger Tiger presents The Lucky Voice Pods Experience

What a hoot was had by all! Armed with my friends and family from the Crown and Shuttle (my family local in Firgrove) and their karaoke guru and singer extraordinaire Dean Larder, we arrived by limousine at Tiger Tiger one Friday night, courtesy of Charlotte and Brett, and took over the 14-person private pod for a night of singing, drinking and embarrassment! Beautifully-designed private pods, huge up-to-the-minute song list, clever touch-screen technology, drinks at the touch of a button? how could we fail to have a fantastic night out.
