We have joined forces with publisher James Ward to offer our readers the chance to win a copy of the latest book by Mancunian author Gary James, entitled Manchester - a Football History.
Published to mark the 400th anniversary of football being banned in Manchester, the book is the most definitive story of Mancunian football.
It covers Manchester City, Manchester United, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport and Stalybridge, as well as non-league sides such as Altrincham.
Among the many fascinating stories in the book is a 1972 letter from Manchester United to Manchester City asking if they would like to make an offer for a forward - 26-year-old George Best. It also explains how City benefited by having one of the biggest newspaper barons of the 20th century as chairman and recounts the scandal that led to the formation of the PFA.
Manchester - A Football History, which also includes some rare and previously unpublished images, is now available at local bookshops, priced at £21.95. For more information visit www.manchesterfootball.org
